Buffalo-bean is a low-growing prairie plant that often occurs on dry hillsides or bluffs where it isn't crowded by taller plants. It does best on well-drained, loamy soil. Plant where the early flowers and inflated pods can be seen and enjoyed. The pods are edible when green.
